You can’t get away from the waltz in ballet class. I’ve spent 10 years thinking about all the ways in which the waltz that I first thought of wasn’t suitable for the exercise. For ballet classes you don’t just need “a waltz” or “a 3/4,” you need the waltzing equivalent of a deluxe Swiss Army knife: not just a few different sized blades, but something that has a tool for getting stones out of horseshoes, a fish-scaler, a USB drive, a cigarette lighter, bradawl and a corkscrew, an Allen key, a Philips screwdriver, a marlin spike…you get the picture.
