…is the title of a very interesting lecture by veteran critic Joan Acocella available on from the University of Berkeley via iTunes (click this link to get it: Ballet and Sex). As she explains, in a voice that’s sounds like a cross between Joan Rivers and Elaine Strich, her real subject is actually ‘ballet and the female crotch’.
This is just one of an increasing number of lectures being made freely available by Universities on iTunes U which I reckon is going to be to education what Sky+ is to television. I felt sorry for the guy who owned the high-street photography studio & film processing shop at the end of our road when he finally had to close a couple of years ago, but it was inevitable in a world of digital cameras and home printing. iTunes U is another digital revolution which I think will cause similar upheavals in the academic world, though I don’t know who the eventual winners and losers will be.
