Despite the warnings of thunderstorms, made it to the Lido this morning for 8 a.m., determined to become a cold water swimmer, at least for a day. With a 90 metre pool on your doorstep, it’s mad not to take advantage of it.

What a fantastic place. That’s not it on the left, by the way, that’s just the pond en route – there was a beautiful mist over the common which was lifting so I had to take what I could before it went.

I made 4 lengths of the pool before we were chucked out for fear of boiling to death if lightning struck, but met some nice people for breakfast in the café. Early morning cold-water swimmers seem to be the nicest people in the world. Definitely going to keep trying, and may even join the nutters who swim through the winter.

  1. That’s even crazier than my new regime of 6am yoga. I have to wake up at 5 every day, and drive for 30 minutes to get to class. Love it, even though it’s having a negative impact on my late night drinking.

  2. I’m going to join you in your craziness – the advantage of the Lido is that it opens at 6am ALL year round. I found the shock of cold water and fresh air of a morning better than the stuff you can buy in Electric Avenue.
