Half-studying my new Nokia N73 phone, half-ripping a DVD to mp4, half catching up on emails, half drinking a bottle of very good Chilean red, and half watching What’s Up Doc. I always forget that this is one of my favourite movies of all time, especially since the time I realised that a huge amount of the comedy is achieved technically and very academically through the use of only diegetic sound – there’s no music until the lift arrives (ding ding) and the doors open (lift music). It makes music in hotels seem as silly as it is, but also dignifies the dialogue. Brilliant. I could write a thesis on it, if it weren’t for the Carmenere.
